The IP Key SEA Conference on Trademarks brings together trademark experts from both the public and private sectors. This year’s conference focuses on well-known trademarks, bad faith registrations, and non-traditional trademarks from the perspectives of Intellectual Property Offices in the EU, Southeast Asia, and the private sector, such as trademark owners and attorneys. The long-term objective is to promote international standards in the protection of well-known trademarks as a means to protect owners from bad faith registration and ensure adequate protection mechanisms are in place for their marks. With the development of new forms of marks within the context of the evolving digital environment, the trademark experts will also engage in discussions on the protection of these new forms of marks and other non-traditional trademarks and the need to establish competency-based trademark training to ensure the efficient examination of these new marks in addition to traditional trademarks.
