The webinar provided practical IP advice for European SMEs wishing to do business and develop technology in China and South-East Asia. Our IPR SME Helpdesk expert Mr. Philippe Deltombe gave the SMEs a comprehensive overview on basic IP protection relating to innovation in China and South-East Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia in particular). SMEs received some tips on how to draft best strategies for IP protection especially tailored for the R&D sector in both China and South-East Asia. The IPR expert used several case-studies involving European SMEs to illustrate both challenges in IP protection and best practice in both China and South-East Asia.
In light of the EU Gateway | Business Avenues business mission to Singapore and Thailand on the Information and Communication Technology Sector of May 22 to 27 2017, Thailand's ICT Sector is growing rapidly, and the Thai government is placing heavy emphasis on its development. This provides the perfect circumstances for EU SMEs providing ICT technology and interested in expanding in South-East Asia to further explore the many possibilities Thailand might offer. However, true to our motto "Know before you Go!", we would like to emphasize the IPR risks and essentials which come along with any new foreign market.
In line with recent developments in the rest of the region, Cambodia has become a prime destination for European SME's to expand their businesses to. This gives all the more reason for them to protect their intellectual property rights in an often unfamiliar environment. Especially as Cambodia's IPR legislation and system are relatively young, it is important to be up to date with recent developments. Our IPR Expert Sovath Phin will expand on the IPR Landscape in Cambodia with specific emphasis on Licensing and Franchising.
