ASEAN IPR SME Helpdesk Regional Launch,
11 June 2013, Jakarta, Indonesia
The recently established ASEAN IPR SME Helpdesk is being officially introduced to Southeast Asia in Jakarta, Indonesia on 11 June. The project is co-funded by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry under the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) and will last until August 2014. This initiative supports European Union (EU) Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to both protect and enforce their Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in or relating to the ten countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
During the launch event, Helpdesk members will introduce the services provided to SMEs and discuss potential areas of collaboration with intermediary organisations in the area. The guest expert speaker, Kin Wah Chow, will provide an overview of the IPR landscape in Southeast Asia while providing some pertinent examples to illustrate the importance of IP protection for SMEs doing business in the ASEAN region.
