Event Description:

The ASEAN IPR SME Helpdesk, in co-operation with the European Business Organisation and the Federation of Belgian Chambers, is organising a training session for SME intermediary organisations based in Brussels and the surrounding area. During this event, participants will learn more about the IPR protection landscape in South-East Asia in the context of market opportunities for the European SMEs that are considering doing business in/with that region.

ASEAN Helpdesk Team Leader, Simon Cheetham, will present an overview of the IP situation in South-East Asia and introduce the services available at the Helpdesk for SMEs to effectively protect their IP. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and an open dialogue on IP issues in South-East Asia affecting EU SMEs.

Expert Speaker biography:

Simon Cheetham is the Team Leader of the ASEAN IPR SME Helpdesk. He is an ASEAN IPR Enforcement expert with over 30 years' experience in commercial investigations, due diligence and IPR enforcement in South-East Asia and internationally. He has lived and worked in China and South-East Asia for over 17 years. He is also the Managing Director of ERINYES INTERNATIONAL LTD, a firm he founded to capitalise on his extensive experience of international investigations, loss prevention and enforcement work. He manages and directs the operations of the Company from Europe to the Far East.

Simon began his career with the Hong Kong Police, where he was responsible for the detection and prosecution of a wide variety of crimes. While in South-East Asia Simon was Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce IP Committee. He has lectured frequently around the world on security issues and IPR and has served as a short-term expert at ASEAN Seminar in Singapore and a speaker on the topic of Famous Marks and IP protection between borders within ASEAN. He is fluent in English and Cantonese.
