Event Description:


This joint webinar is organised in cooperation between the China and South-East Asia IPR SME Helpdesks and the IP Key Action of the EU in China ( The aim of the webinar is to advise European SMEs on how they can best protect their IP in the Food and Beverages sector in China and South-East Asia. The IP experts Davide Follador and Valentina Salmoiraghi will give a short overview of the current state of the F&B market, along with pointing out opportunities for European SMEs, in China and South-East Asia with a focus on Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore.


The experts will discuss the registration and protection of most important types of IP in F&B sector including trade marks, Geographical Indications, trade secrets and design patents for the packaging layout. European SMEs will also receive practical tips on how to deal with infringements and enforce their IP rights. Both experts will use extensive case studies including European SMEs to illustrate the IP issues that companies could face in China and South-East Asia.

Expert bios:


IP Key Expert Mr. Davide Follador


Davide Follador is currently Key Expert for the EUIPO at IP Key in Beijing, a strategic EU project that provides technical support to the EU-China IP Dialogue. He currently oversees the Legal Component focusing on IPR protection and enforcement. Mr Follador is former commissioned officer of Italian Police and holds Master in International Law. He is qualified European Trademark and Design Attorney (EUIPO) as well as admitted to Milan BAR Chamber, with 15 year experience in legal advisory, particularly Intellectual Property Law in Europe and Asia.


Mr Follador is regular speaker at workshops and seminars on IP law and policy with government, industry and academia in China and Europe. He authors articles on European and Chinese IP matters, counterfeiting, IP litigation and protection strategy in Asia for major law magazines and academic journals. His academic and teaching activities include lecturing at the IP Summer School of the School of Government in Beijing and tutorship at Istituto Marangoni Fashion School in Shanghai.


South-East Asia IPR SME Helpdesk IP Advisor Ms. Valentina Salmoiraghi

Ms. Valentina Salmoiraghi is the new IP Advisor of the South-East Asia IPR SME Helpdesk located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Singapore.

Valentina holds a Master Degree in Law - International Institutions - from Bocconi University, Milan (Italy), and a Master Degree in Law from University of Barcelona. After working for one year for a leading international Law Firm in Milan she started her practice on Chinese Law in 2007 working in Beijing with an Italian Law Firm mainly advising Italian and European companies on Chinese Foreign Direct Investments and general IP matters. She joined the CHINA IPR SME Helpdesk as IP Expert from August 2013 until July 2014.

With 10 years working experience in China and South-East Asia providing legal assistance with reference to Commercial and Corporate matters, Contract drafting and reviewing, Negotiations, Company Law and Inbound Investments (Joint-Ventures and Wholly foreign direct invested enterprises), Distribution and Supply Chain, Logistics, Intellectual Property Rights(registrations, licensing and enforcement), Procurement and Standards & Conformity in various industries, Due Diligence, Commercial and IP Arbitration and Litigation, Mergers and Acquisitions deals and restructuring with reference to the jurisdictions of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and China.

Advice provided to companies in various industry including technology, ICT, online payments and transactions, consumer goods, fashion and design, food and beverage, media, medical, education, mechanical and manufacturing.
